Simran Oberoi Multani: Founder and Chief Baker, Ovenderful
Simran Oberoi Multani: A promoter of veganism and a vegan herself, Simran Oberoi Multani, a self-taught baker is the founder of ‘Ovenderful’. What distinguishes her baked goods from others’ is that they are 100% healthy and completely free of gluten and dairy products. She founded her Bangalore-based venture in 2013.
EARLY LIFE
Born and brought up in Calcutta, Simran did her B.A (Honours) in Economics from there and then moved to Goa for an MBA in Human Resources. She has worked for various organizations in Human Resources Advisory services as well as in Resource & Knowledge development for over 11 years before Ovenderful came into being. And she currently works on freelance HR projects too. Simran has two kids- a son and a daughter and a canine pet.
Ovenderful is also a blog where Simran posts recipes to her healthy bakes. She also runs Ovenderful Mom Bakers Community, a community that is now 21,000 members strong on Facebook.
Simran Oberoi Multani also bakes for various social causes. She has baked for raising funds for various animal NGOs. “From the social front, the OVBakestreat Program is going to restart very soon- a set of volunteer bakers since July 2016 has been baking and distributing healthy bakes regularly for slum children/street children/children of migrant labor in their local areas. This is more of a consistent and regular program so that not only do we give the children the joy of the goodies but also some small form of nutrition. It is called the Ovenderful BakeStreat Program and is a PAN India initiative. This will get on, in a bigger way”, says Simran.
SUCCESS
“I am working on collaborating with OpenOut, to create home-centered experiences and bring together like-minded individuals. After the great feedback on the first one on Healthy Baking, the second one which is a kind of brunch experience that I am hosting, is about how Ancient gluten-free Grains are used in baking.”
She considers her biggest achievement as when she was mentioned in a public post by Sheryl Sandberg (COO, Facebook) about women making a difference in their communities. Simran as well as Ovenderful’s story was mentioned in the post. “That was an incredibly fulfilling moment for me because external validation of your work is a huge boost. OMBC was also recognized for its work in the social impact space, again by Facebook, when I was invited to Singapore as part of the first of its kind unique recognition even for FB communities -only 8 from all over Asia were called for the same. ”
No journey that leads up to the road to success is without any challenges or difficulties. Neither was Simran’s. Simran Oberoi Multani faced the challenges of not having enough funds to scale up into a physical storefront. Also, working as a single person enterprise is a challenge in itself.
