Baggit was founded by Nina Lekhi in 1990. It all started as a small purse business. At that time Nina had no idea where her purse business would head, but she was very curious to find out. Baggit first made its appearance in INXS, Mumbai.
She always had a passion for arts. So Nina did a Diploma foundation arts course from Sophia’s Polytechnic. She was balancing two part time courses- Screen printing and interior decoration along with a job as a sales woman on the side.
She said that no woman in her family worked but her mother was very supportive and encouraging. She also said that she realised that T-shirts with simple slogans were available but we did not have funky and contemporary bags to buy in India. So, to fill the gap she started designing bags.
Today, Baggit is worth Rs. 100 crores and retails in 90 cities; with exclusive 48 stores and 350 large format stores. And Nina wishes to open a lot more outlets in each city of India especially in metros and mini metros.
Nina faced many challenges on the road to make her mark in the world of fashion. But, despite of all the difficulties that she faced she did not give up. Her passion and her determination towards her work are what kept her going and have made her such a huge success today. She surely is a woman to look up to.
Nina has also won several awards such as: the State of Maharashtra awarded her with esteemed Karmayogini award. She also won the Woman Entrepreneur of the year award at the Entrepreneur India Awards 2015. She has also received the Enterprising Woman of the year award at the India SME forum on the occasion of International Women’s day. Her various accomplishments have been featured in the book ‘Follow every Rainbow’ by the famous writer Rashmi Bansal.

Today Baggit has completed 27 years and is one of the most trusted brands for stylish and durable handbags. Nina Lekhi surely owes the huge success that Baggit is today.
